CFDs carry a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage.
A standard-lot AUD/USD round turn on OctaFX's Pro account costs roughly USD 12 in spread if you catch the average 1.2-pip quote, and about USD 6 on a good 0.6-pip fill. That single number is where every review on this site starts. Not the bonus banner, not the 1:1000 leverage headline, but the cash that leaves your account on a completed trade.
OctaFX is a real broker with a real track record. It was founded in 2011, rebranded from OctaFX to Octa, and has a sizeable Pakistan user base. Our method is not about whether the brand is old. It is about what a Pakistani trader actually pays, what they can actually withdraw, and what the regulator of record actually says.
How We Price a Trade
We build every review the same way: pick one instrument, one lot size, one session, and price it end to end. Spreads are the easy part. The hard part is everything after the spread.
For a Pakistan-based reader, four cost layers stack on top of each other:
- Broker spread or commission on the entry and exit
- Overnight swap, which on OctaFX is zero because all accounts are swap-free by default
- PKR to USD conversion, since no PKR base-currency account is verified
- Outward remittance cost or wallet fee on deposit and withdrawal
On OctaFX specifically, the structure is spread-only, from about 0.6 pip, with zero commission. There is no separate per-lot ticket charge, so the cost model is transparent in a way tiered commission accounts sometimes are not.
| Cost layer | OctaFX structure | What it means for a PK trader |
|---|---|---|
| Spread (Pro, AUD/USD) | From ~0.6 pip | ~USD 6 per standard lot round turn |
| Commission | Zero | No per-lot ticket fee |
| Swap | Swap-free on all accounts | No overnight riba charge |
| FX conversion | USD/EUR base only | PKR-USD conversion cost applies |
The nuance is that "from 0.6 pip" is not the same as "0.6 pip always." Spread on Pro widens around major data releases and the Friday close. If you trade the London open, you will rarely see the floor figure. If you trade the Asian session on a major pair, you often will.
What the Regulator Says
State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has named OctaFX among prohibited illegal offshore FX platforms, and the SECP and PTA have issued warnings on unlicensed brokers. OctaFX holds no SBP or SECP licence. It serves Pakistan clients through an offshore entity, Octa Markets Ltd, registered in Mwali under the MISA framework in the Comoros.

Retail forex and CFD trading is not criminalised in Pakistan, but there is no local licensing route either. The SECP does not issue local retail forex or CFD broker licences, and the SBP does not permit margin-based currency trading inside Pakistan. Residents who trade do so through brokers regulated abroad, and that is only clean where funds move through legitimate banking channels. Hawala or Hundii routing, or a platform that bypasses the banking system, is where the legal exposure actually sits.
The SECP in 2026 reiterated crackdowns on unlicensed currency and commodity-futures operators. There is no single consolidated public blacklist comparable to India's Alert List, so verification takes two clicks: check the SECP site and the SBP notices directly. This is one paragraph of the review, not the whole verdict. Regulatory status is a criterion, not a disqualifier.
The Leverage Question
Offshore leverage of up to 1:1000 is the number that sells accounts and empties them. There is no local retail leverage cap in Pakistan because there is no domestic retail forex or CFD licensing regime at all.
Here is what 1:1000 actually means. One standard lot of AUD/USD is a USD 100,000 notional position. At 1:1000, the required margin is USD 100. A 10-pip adverse move on that position is roughly USD 100. Your margin is gone before most people have finished their coffee.
| Leverage | Margin on 1 std lot | Adverse move that wipes margin |
|---|---|---|
| 1:100 | USD 1,000 | ~100 pips |
| 1:500 | USD 200 | ~20 pips |
| 1:1000 | USD 100 | ~10 pips |
The correct use of high leverage is position sizing, not position stacking. If you open 0.05 lots, you are risking five dollars per pip, and 1:1000 leverage just means your margin requirement is small. If you open five standard lots because the margin allows it, no risk management system survives a normal news candle.
Account Types and Real Costs
OctaFX runs three account structures: Micro on MT4, Pro on MT5, and OctaTrader, the in-house platform. Minimum deposit is USD 25 across the board, which is genuinely low by international standards. Base currencies are USD and EUR, and no PKR account is verified.
| Account | Platform | Min deposit | Cost model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Micro | MT4 | USD 25 | Spread-only, micro lot sizing |
| Pro | MT5 | USD 25 | Spread-only, from ~0.6 pip |
| OctaTrader | OctaTrader | USD 25 | Spread-only, built-in journal |
A USD 25 minimum matters more than it looks. It means you can test the actual spread behavior on live fills with a small real account rather than trusting a demo. That is the single best way to verify whether the advertised 0.6 pip shows up in your session.
The platforms are OctaTrader, MT4, and MT5, with instruments across FX, metals, indices, commodities, and crypto and stock CFDs. If you are cost-focused, the practical difference between MT4 and MT5 here is execution and order type, not spread. MT5 gives you more timeframes and a depth-of-market view on some instruments.
If your priority is a broker whose regulator actually has jurisdiction over your account, this is the point in the review where that comparison becomes the deciding variable, not the spread. FCA, ASIC, or CySEC regulation, segregated client funds, and a published complaints process are worth more than a decimal point of spread when something goes wrong. Compare that dimension explicitly rather than defaulting to the brand you already know.
Funding, Conversion, and Withdrawal
Local rails historically include bank transfer and mobile wallets, with Easypaisa and JazzCash named among the options brokers offer in Pakistan. Skrill and Neteller are also used, and some residents route via USDT P2P. Everything here should be verified at signup, since rail availability changes.
| Funding method | Typical speed | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Bank transfer | 1-3 business days | Conversion cost applies |
| Easypaisa / JazzCash | Often instant | Verify at signup |
| Skrill / Neteller | Often instant | USD-denominated |
| USDT P2P | Minutes | Counterparty risk on the P2P leg |
The base-currency issue is the one people miss. Your account is USD or EUR, not PKR. So every deposit carries a PKR-USD conversion spread, and every withdrawal carries it back. On a USD 200 deposit, a 2% round-trip conversion is USD 4, which is a larger drag than a full standard-lot spread cost on a smaller account.
SBP exchange controls add a second layer. Card-based outward transactions are capped around USD 30,000 per year, individuals and sole proprietors are often limited to roughly USD 10,000 per year, and remittances above those limits need SBP FEOD approval through the banks' FX portal. As of November 2025, foreign currency sold to residents must move through digital channels. USD/PKR is rarely offered as a tradable pair, so you are almost never trading your home currency.
Tax on Trading Profits
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is the authority. Forex and derivatives profit for residents is generally taxed as income. Where it is treated as capital gains on movable assets other than exchange-traded securities, it falls under the individual's normal slab rates. Listed-securities gains and foreign shares or funds carry their own specific rates, with foreign shares and mutual funds at roughly 15% flat. Crypto gains are at a flat 15% CGT as of the review.

Residents are taxed on worldwide income, so a profit made on an offshore account is not invisible. If foreign income exceeds USD 10,000 or foreign assets exceed USD 100,000 in the tax year, a Foreign Income and Assets Statement is required. Verify slab rates with the FBR directly, since they change with each budget.
Where the Method Falls Short
Spread-only pricing hides nothing, but it also shows nothing when spreads spike. The OctaFX model is clean on paper and thin in practice during high-volatility windows. A 0.6-pip floor is a marketing figure, not a median.

The bigger limitations are structural, not broker-specific. There is no local licence, so no local dispute mechanism exists if a withdrawal stalls. There is a record of withdrawal complaints and an India ED PMLA and Ponzi probe in the reputation history, which is worth knowing before you wire money, not after. Customer support quality, KYC turnaround on Smart CNIC or passport plus proof of address, and the withdrawal queue are all things that only show up once you have a funded account.
None of this is a reason to avoid international brokers as a category. It is a reason to weigh offshore-only status against strong offshore regulation, segregated funds, transparent fees, and a long verifiable track record, and to pick a broker that scores well on all four.
Questions
Before you decide: common questions
What leverage can I actually get?
Up to 1:1000 offshore, because there is no local retail leverage cap in Pakistan. On one standard lot that is USD 100 of margin against a USD 100,000 notional, so a 10-pip move wipes the margin. Use it for sizing, not for stacking positions.
When is it better to walk away?
Walk away from any comparison that only prices the spread. If a broker cannot show you segregated client funds, a named regulator with real jurisdiction, and a withdrawal path you have tested yourself with a small amount, the low headline cost is not the number that matters. Our method puts one standard-lot round turn first for a reason: if the total cost of a completed trade, including conversion and remittance, is more than you expected, you have your answer before you deposit anything larger. > [! NOTE] Figures on this page reflect our review period. Leverage, spread floors, remittance limits, and tax slab rates change. Verify current numbers with the SECP, the SBP, and the FBR before acting on any of them.
Does OctaFX have a local licence in Pakistan?
No. There is no SBP or SECP licence, and OctaFX serves Pakistan clients through Octa Markets Ltd, an offshore entity in Mwali, Comoros. The SBP advisory names OctaFX among prohibited illegal offshore FX platforms.
